The creation of your pet’s portrait is a step-by-step process.
When starting a portrait, I always start with the eyes. The eyes are the most important feature of any portrait as they capture the character of your beloved pet. This is why it is important, when requesting a pet portrait, to submit photographs with clear, visible, and sharply focused eyes.
For more information on submitting photographs, see photo-tips.
Once the eyes have been rendered, I proceed to establishing a base to the portrait. I do this by lightly blocking in colour, starting with the lightest of colours and progressing toward darker ones.
I continue to add depth to the portrait by applying layer upon layer of colour. In doing so, I emphasize highlights and create shadows; this leads to the creation of depth in the portrait.
In the finishing stages, I add the fine details to the portrait such as whiskers and fly away hairs.
The result is a finished portrait.
